This state is one of our favourite places at it has a lot of things to see and do. It is famous for its culinary traditions, home to several civilizations flourished and beautiful beaches. If you are interested in art and craftsmanship, Oaxaca has plenty of ateliers of artisans who specialize on making textiles, mezcal (sort of a cousin of tequila) and woodcrafts.

How to get there

Oaxaca City has an airport with good connections to anywhere in the country. Driving there is also possible however try to drive during the day and always opt for the toll roads rather than the federal highways.

What to do

  1. Ruins: Mitla, Monte Alban.
  2. Beaches: Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Zipolite and Mazunte. Surfing is quite common in this area.
  3. Nature: Hierve el agua, Mountain hiking, Arbol del tule.
  4. Oaxaca City: Santo Domingo, Art Galleries, Historic Center, Museo de las culturas, MACO, Museo Textil de Oaxaca, Rufino Tamayo Museum, Etnobotanic garden.

How to get around

There are several tourism companies that offer day tours to places of interest for good prices. Buses or renting a car are always good options.

What to eat

Go to the Benito Juarez food market. Good restaurant options are Los Danzantes and La Catedral. Make sure you try out the mole from Los Pacos.

How to get to the wedding location from here

The easiest way is to fly from Oaxaca City to Mexico City through one of the Budget Airlines: Volaris, Interjet or Viva Aereobus. You can drive all the way to Mexico City and/or the wedding location.
