Our wedding will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Jardín Huayacán, located in Jiutepec, a suburb of the city of Cuernavaca, in Morelos, Mexico. A map and full address can be found below.
The event will start at 2:00 pm and finish at 2:00 am, and consists of three main components, which will all take place on the premises.
The ceremony is expected to last 45 minutes and will be held in the bamboo area located within the venue. For purposes of inclusiveness, it will be in English.
Some snacks and cocktails will be offered after the ceremony is over. This is expected to last between 45 minutes and an hour. You will also get to experience live Mariachi music!
After the cocktail, you will be guided to the area where the reception will be held. A four-course dinner will be served, along with drinks and snacks throughout the night! Dancing is required and Instagram photos are expected to carry the #GabyDouwe hashtag.
We recommend finding accommodation in Jiutepec, where the venue is located, or as a second option, the city of Cuernavaca itself.
You are advised to arrive to your accommodation on Friday, August 23rd, the day before the wedding, so that you don't risk getting delayed by traffic on Saturday, and will have enough time to get ready before the wedding starts at 2pm. Because the party will last until 2am, we recommend leaving Sunday afternoon, or ideally, Monday morning, so that you'll have plenty of time to nurse a hypothetical hangover and enjoy the accommodation's amenities.
The most affordable option is Airbnb. You wil find a lot of houses (with pools!) in the area, that are especially attractive if you book them with a larger group.
Alternatively, you can choose to make a reservation in one of the following hotels:
Hotel | Distance from venue | Price per night |
---|---|---|
Hotel Hacienda de Cortes | 5 minutes away | $3130 MXN / €140 EUR / $160 USD |
Hotel Camino Real Sumiya | 5 minutes away | $2100 MXN / €95 EUR / $110 USD |
Hosteria Las Quintas | 20 minutes away | $3748 MXN / €170 EUR / €195 USD |
Hotel ONE Cuernavaca | 20 minutes away | $907 MXN / €40 EUR / €50 USD |
For those spending some extra time in Cuernavaca or Jiutepec around the wedding, we also have some recommendations on where to eat.
Cuernavaca (and Jiutepec) are about 60 miles (100km) away from Mexico City. Usually, the trip takes about an hour and a half by car, however the traffic in Mexico City can sometimes cause significant delays.
If you don't have access to a car, we recommend one of the following alternatives:
We are also evaluating renting buses to transport people who don't have access to a car from Mexico City to Jiutepec/Cuernavaca on Thursday and/or Friday, and back on Sunday and/or Monday. If you let us know through the RSVP form that this is something you're interested in, we will get in touch to figure out the details.
The option we recommend the most is Uber.
Taxis can also be a good alternative, however some of them might try to charge you more because you are a foreigner, or will have trouble communicating with because they don’t speak English.
Driving there is also an option since there will be Valet Parking at the premises, however we don’t advise to do so since there will be plenty of tequila.
The average temperature in Cuernavaca in August is 26°C (79°F), and you can expect occasional rainshowers. As the weather will be hot and humid, we suggest following this dress code!
Women wear cocktail dresses and comfortable heels.
We will provide comfortable, custom slippers or flip-flops to change into when you get tired of wearing or dancing in your heels, that can also serve as a souvenir!
Men usually wear dress pants, dress shoes and a long sleeved guayabera: a traditional dress shirt made from linen or cotton, that will keep you fresh throughout the day. A tie is not required, but long sleeves are.
You can buy a guayabera in department stores such as Liverpool, Sears, Palacio de Hierro or Camasha. If you don’t own or can't acquire a guayabera, any long sleeved dress shirt made of linen or cotton will do.
Your presence at our wedding will be the greatest gift of all,
and we have no expectations beyond that.
However, we know that some of you would still like to honor us with something extra, for which you thank you in advance.
This map shows the various places around the world our guests are (coming) from.
While Mexico (186 people) and the Netherlands (49 people) predictably top the list, we feel honored to welcome guests from as many as 17 different countries!
